Les pervers &#8211; ceux qui d\u00e9tournent quelque chose de leur vraie nature &#8211; c\u2019est dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des humains que Paul les a crois\u00e9 : leurs \u00e9coles, leurs coll\u00e8ges et autres institutions bien comme il faut. Dans le journal Tintin, les h\u00e9ros sont costum\u00e9s de la t\u00eate aux pieds. Il est rare de voir BLAKE et MORTIMER en slip, ou TINTIN en tenue d\u2019Adam\u00a0<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a>. Il est d\u00e9bout\u00e9 \u00e0 la s\u00e9lection nationale. L\u2019imitation de la nature \u00e9tait devenue, pour l&#8217;intelligentsia artistique, une pratique p\u00e9rim\u00e9e. Quand il expose \u00e0 La Louvi\u00e8re des jeunes filles aux drap\u00e9s antiques, il essuie des remarques sur l\u2019ind\u00e9cence de ses dessins <a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a>. T\u00e9moin de cette p\u00e9riode montoise, le sculpteur Ren\u00e9 Harvent se souvient de gigantesques nus r\u00e9alis\u00e9s en atelier \u00e0 Mons et que Paul se refusait d\u2019exposer pour ne pas g\u00eaner sa famille. En 1958, n\u2019ayant pas r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 vivre de ses dessins, peintures et sculptures, Paul Cuvelier revient \u2013 queue entre les jambes \u2013 \u00e0 la bande dessin\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00ab <em>Il \u00e9tait indiff\u00e9rent aux encouragements. Les arts visuels accompagnent le mouvement. Dans le sillage de l\u2019album BARBARELLA de Jean-Claude Forest, Paul Cuvelier dessine, chez le m\u00eame \u00e9diteur, EPOXY, une bande libre&#8230;aux sexes effac\u00e9s <a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a>. Alors que l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1968 est associ\u00e9e \u00e0 la r\u00e9volte du fils contre le p\u00e8re <a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a>, pour Paul Cuvelier, cela correspond \u00e0 sa disparition. Ce m\u00e9decin de campagne, dont l\u2019activit\u00e9 allait de l\u2019arrachage de dents \u00e0 l\u2019accouchement \u00e0 domicile, \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s pieux. Avant tous les autres, ce pays lib\u00e9ralise la r\u00e9alisation et la vente de pornographie. Paul Cuvelier, de nature plut\u00f4t s\u00e9dentaire, gagne aussit\u00f4t le Danemark. \u00c0 cette foire, baptis\u00e9e SEX 69, il d\u00e9couvre, stand apr\u00e8s stand, des corps affich\u00e9s, sans verni, sous la forme de magazines, photographies, diapositives, film 8 MM et spectacles en direct. La parit\u00e9 homme\/femme est \u00e9trangement respect\u00e9e: les hommes regardent, les femmes sont vues. Apr\u00e8s les avoir durablement impressionn\u00e9s en 1942 avec ses plaques de lanterne magique tir\u00e9es de l\u2019ENFER de Dante par Gustave Dor\u00e9, Paul r\u00e9\u00e9dite l\u2019exploit avec ces diapositives scandinaves. Ayant rapidement \u00e9puis\u00e9 son chargeur, Paul va se mettre \u00e0 dessiner de nouveaux sujets.
