Il renoue avec le sculpteur Ren\u00e9 Harvent, dont il avait fait la connaissance \u00e0 l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie de Mons, une dizaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es auparavant. Les deux hommes ont de nombreux \u00e9changes, tant \u00e0 propos de leur conception de l\u2019art, que des techniques qu\u2019ils utilisent. Ils se partagent \u00e9galement les mod\u00e8les. Parmi ces mod\u00e8les, quelques-unes \u00e9taient des danseuses. Les deux artistes sont \u00e0 la recherche d\u2019un id\u00e9al de beaut\u00e9 dont la repr\u00e9sentation serait figurative, et donc en porte-\u00e0-faux avec leur \u00e9poque. Ils ont donc d\u00fb consid\u00e9rer les danseuses comme une source d\u2019inspiration \u00e9vidente, car dot\u00e9es de la beaut\u00e9 plastique et de la beaut\u00e9 du mouvement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"panel-13523-1-1-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce\" data-index=\"9\" data-style=\"{&quot;background_image_attachment&quot;:false,&quot;background_display&quot;:&quot;tile&quot;}\">\n<div class=\"textwidget\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nous vous pr\u00e9sentons ici une s\u00e9rie de dessins de Paul Cuvelier repr\u00e9sentant des danseuses, que l\u2019on peut dater principalement de cette p\u00e9riode. Ces dessins rel\u00e8vent de tentatives un peu disparates, et t\u00e9moignent d\u2019un artiste encore \u00e0 la recherche de son style. On y retrouve, p\u00eale-m\u00eale, diverses influences\u00a0: Degas &#8211; dont les danseuses inspir\u00e8rent une bonne part de l\u2019\u0153uvre &#8211; , Toulouse-Lautrec &#8211; le chantre des danseuses de cabaret -, voire Matisse &#8211; dont les repr\u00e9sentations de la danse sont plus \u00e9pur\u00e9es-.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"panel-13523-1-1-2\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-last-child\" data-index=\"10\" data-style=\"{&quot;background_image_attachment&quot;:false,&quot;background_display&quot;:&quot;tile&quot;}\">\n<div class=\"textwidget\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Parmi elles, on retrouve la danseuse classique qui posa pour la statue Athikt\u00e9 de Ren\u00e9 Harvent, actuellement visible au Th\u00e9atre de Mons. Face aux danseuses, il nous montre celles-ci fr\u00e9quemment au repos, ou dans des poses alanguies.\u00a0 Parfois, il les anime de grands mouvements. G\u00e9n\u00e9ralement, il met l\u2019accent sur le caract\u00e8re \u00e9rotique de la sc\u00e8ne, allant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 les dessiner nues. Dans leur posture, les cuisses sont fr\u00e9quemment ouvertes.
