Alors qu\u2019Herg\u00e9 menait les dessinateurs dans sa ligne, Paul Cuvelier \u00e9tait \u00e0 part. \u00ab J\u2019\u00e9tais fou de ce qu\u2019il faisait \u00bb. En 1962, \u00e0 20 ans, Jean prend son courage \u00e0 deux mains et lui \u00e9crit une lettre. Une rencontre est organis\u00e9e \u00e0 son atelier rue Jourdan. Il se souvient de tas de vieux dessins dans la pi\u00e8ce, &#8220;pas li\u00e9s \u00e0 la bande dessin\u00e9e&#8221;, des fusains, des sanguines et du lavis. \u00ab Nous avons sympathis\u00e9 tout de suite, en nous montrant nos dessins respectifs. Nous avons beaucoup discut\u00e9, m\u00eame \u00e0 la maison, lors d&#8217;un d\u00eener. Il m&#8217;avait exprim\u00e9 qu&#8217;il aurait aim\u00e9 fonder une famille, mais son art passait avant tout \u00bb. La recherche de l&#8217;absolu \u00e0 travers la peinture avait cr\u00e9\u00e9 chez Cuvelier un malaise perceptible, qui fit penser \u00e0 Jean d&#8217;abandonner le projet de devenir un grand artiste.\u00a0 \u00ab Depuis, l&#8217;art n&#8217;est plus ma priorit\u00e9\u2026\u00a0 m\u00eame si cela reste essentiel<span style=\"display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: transparent; color: #333333; cursor: text; font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman','Bitstream Charter',Times,serif; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 24px; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;\">. On va dessiner l&#8217;arbre, parce qu&#8217;on ne peut pas le manger ! \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"panel-10181-0-1-4\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-last-child\" data-index=\"5\" data-style=\"{&quot;background_image_attachment&quot;:false,&quot;background_display&quot;:&quot;tile&quot;}\">\n<div class=\"textwidget\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jean pr\u00e9cise sa pens\u00e9e : \u00ab quand un artiste croise le &#8220;beau&#8221;, cela cr\u00e9\u00e9 en lui un trouble, et en quelque sorte il souhaite int\u00e9grer le &#8220;beau&#8221;, se l&#8217;approprier&#8230; donc il le reproduit, il le dessine, il le peint, il le sculpte ! \u00bb. Jean, contrairement \u00e0 Paul, n\u2019a pas pris ce \u00ab trip du perfectionnisme \u00bb. Ce d\u00e9sir de d\u00e9passement qui\u00a0 &#8211; \u00e0 son avis &#8211; est inn\u00e9 chez tous les \u00eatres humains et tout aussi pr\u00e9sent dans le religieux avec la recherche de Dieu. \u00ab Le dessinateur int\u00e8gre le beau, veut faire le beau sien alors que c\u2019est inaccessible \u00bb. Chez les grecs, il y avait un courant de pens\u00e9e qui associait le BON au BEAU, le \u03ba\u03b1\u03bb\u1f78\u03c2 \u03ba\u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u03cc\u03c2. Une d\u00e9ception, car Jean aurait pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 que celui qu\u2019il nomme, &#8220;le ma\u00eetre&#8221;, lui apprenne \u00e0 dessiner. Jeronaton a r\u00e9cemment r\u00e9alis\u00e9 une grande toile reprenant une couverture du Journal Tintin de 1950 que Paul Cuvelier avait r\u00e9alis\u00e9 pour son r\u00e9cit \u00ab Corentin chez les Peaux-Rouges \u00bb.
